Irit Levy, your kosher travel designer in Italy

Irit Levy, kosher travel designer based in Rome

Rome · Florence · Venice · Naples

Ten years building relationships across Jewish Italy

I am Irit Levy. I am not a travel agent and I do not represent an agency. I am one person, based in Rome, who designs private Jewish and kosher travel across Italy — and then stays with it from your arrival to your departure.

For more than ten years I worked within Rome’s Jewish community in communications and cultural projects. During that time I built lasting relationships with synagogue offices, rabbis, certified guides, kosher restaurants and caterers, and Jewish communities throughout Italy. Those relationships are what allow me to create journeys that are thoughtful, personal and smoothly organised.

I am also the mother of two, so I know that a family is not one traveller. A grandmother, a teenager and a five-year-old do not want the same morning, and an itinerary that ignores that falls apart by the third day.

So my job is to listen first — your dates, your children, how you keep kosher and Shabbat, what you have already seen — and only then build the week. The point is to experience the beauty of Italy with the confidence and perspective of someone who knows it from the inside.

What a travel designer does that a booking site cannot

Everything below needs a person, a phone call, and more often than not someone who already knows your name.

Doors that open only with permission

The Great Synagogue of Rome is entered only as part of a timed guided visit. The Jewish catacombs of Vigna Randanini need authorisation obtained weeks in advance. These are not queues to skip — they are permissions to obtain.

Guides the community certifies

Not a general city guide with a Jewish paragraph added at the end. The guides I work with are certified by the Jewish Community of Rome, and they read a Bernini, a catacomb or the Sistine ceiling through the same tradition you do.

Kosher, arranged properly

Rome’s kosher restaurants sit almost entirely on one street, and after three nights you have eaten in all of them. A private chef where you are staying, Shabbat meals, catering and kosher-friendly accommodation are what actually make a longer stay work.

Your dates, read against the Jewish calendar

Synagogues and Jewish museums close on Shabbat and festivals, and the calendar moves every year. Your week is checked against it before anything is booked, so nothing is promised that cannot actually happen.

Before you write to me

The four things people ask first, answered here so you do not have to ask them.

Do I have to book a whole week?

No. Some families take a single three-hour morning in the ghetto and nothing else. Others hand me ten days across four cities. Both are normal, and the second is not the goal.

Do you only work with observant families?

No. Some clients keep strictly kosher and will not travel on Shabbat; others simply want Italy explained from a Jewish point of view. You tell me where you sit, and nothing is assumed.

What does it cost?

There is no price list because there is no package. Every itinerary is quoted individually once the dates, the group and the content are clear — and nothing is charged before you have seen the plan.

How far ahead should I write?

Earlier than you think. The catacomb permits, the synagogue calendar and the kosher caterers are the three things that run out first. For a Bar Mitzvah, several months.

Tell me what you have in mind

Which cities, roughly when, how many of you are travelling, and how you keep kosher and Shabbat. Approximate dates are fine — I would rather hear from you early than perfectly.

  • A real day-by-day itinerary, not a brochure
  • Nothing charged before you have seen the plan
  • One phone number for the whole week
